Elevate Your Year: Goal Setting for Every Enneagram Type

It's been a month! Not even my undying obsession with the Enneagram can solve all the world’s problems—though it would be a lot easier if everyone knew their type.

When things feel frustrating or beyond our control, sometimes we need to shift our focus to what we can control. As a Leadership Coach, often my best advice to clients is to get into action!  Take a few minutes to connect to your future self and elevate your year by setting some inspiring career, life and relationship goals.

What is more unstoppable than a goal-crushing human on a mission? A goal-crushing human on a mission who uses their Enneagram type to knock their goals out of the park. If you don't know your type (yet) you can pop over here for a free quiz or use this top tier assessment from IEQ9. If you are confused about what the Enneagram is or how it can help you, my blog is a good jumping off point!

Here are 9 tried and true tips on setting achievable and aligned goals using your Enneagram type:

Type 1: The Perfectionist

  • Tip: Set “good enough” goals instead of perfect ones. Focus on progress, not perfection.

  • Example: Commit to writing three rough drafts instead of completing one flawless final draft.

Type 2: The Helper

  • Tip: Prioritize goals that are truly yours, not just about helping others.

  • Example: Block out one hour daily for self-care or personal growth goals.

Type 3: The Achiever

  • Tip: Align your goals with your core values instead of external validation.

  • Example: Focus on creating meaningful relationships alongside career milestones.

Type 4: The Creative

  • Tip: Break big creative visions into smaller, actionable steps.

  • Example: Set a timeline for completing one chapter of your book rather than aiming for a finished masterpiece all at once.

Type 5: The Specialist

  • Tip: Balance learning with doing. Set goals that involve applying knowledge.

  • Example: Commit to sharing your expertise by teaching one workshop or publishing one article.

Type 6: The Loyalist

  • Tip: Trust your instincts and set stretch goals that push you out of your comfort zone.

  • Example: Take one bold action this quarter, like pitching yourself for a podcast or leadership role.

Type 7: The Enthusiast

  • Tip: Focus on fewer, more meaningful goals to avoid spreading yourself too thin.

  • Example: Choose one project to complete before moving on to the next (e.g., finishing your website before starting a new venture). BTW THIS IS ME TO A TEE! ALWAYS HAVE 30 THINGS HAPPENING AT ONCE. IT IS TIME TO DIG DEEP! THIS IS THE YEAR I START WRITING MY BOOK. Please hold me accountable : )

Type 8: The Controller

  • Tip: Set collaborative goals that involve empowering others.

  • Example: Create a mentorship program or delegate key tasks to your team.

Type 9: The Peacemaker

  • Tip: Set goals that prioritize your needs and push you toward action.

  • Example: Commit to one daily task that helps you grow, like scheduling time for exercise, being the first to speak in a meeting or starting a gratitude journal.

Alright goal-crusher! Grab a pen or open a word doc and get to work.
