Enneagram Type 7, known as The Enthusiast, is energetic, adventurous, and always looking for the next exciting experience. Sevens are driven by a desire to avoid pain and boredom, often filling their lives with plans, possibilities, and stimulation to stay upbeat and engaged. They are optimistic, spontaneous, and love to keep things fun and light, bringing joy and creativity wherever they go. At their best, Sevens are deeply present, grateful, and able to find meaning in the moment; at their worst, they can become scattered, avoidant, and unwilling to face uncomfortable emotions. Their core fear is being trapped in emotional pain or deprived, and their core desire is to be satisfied, happy, and free.

TYPE 7 IN A RELATIONSHIP

In a relationship, Enneagram 7s are fun-loving, spontaneous partners who bring a sense of adventure and joy to shared experiences. They value freedom and variety, often encouraging their partner to dream big and explore new possibilities together. However, they may struggle with commitment or emotional intensity, sometimes avoiding deeper conversations to keep things light and upbeat.

DREAM VACATION

Doing it all. A trek in Cambodia, cooking classes in Vietnam, shopping in Singapore, and rounding the trip with a luxury beach vacation in Bali.

SHADOW SIDE

GROWTH

AT YOUR DESK

As a 7, you invented the concept of remote work. Freedom is a top value and you will to work at the beach, in a cafe, on the plane if it means you can travel the world.

Your tendency to want to do it all can come back to haunt you. Enneagram 7s often have 20 tabs open on their computer and 20 different plans in a week. Their fear of missing out, or fear of not being able to experience life to the fullest, can lead to burnout. Often these plans are masking a discomfort that lies underneath. By avoiding the pain, Enneagram 7s will continue to reframe their mistakes through a positive lens which can lead to not taking full accountability for their actions and continuing to repeat toxic patterns. 7s are rule breakers and do not like when there freedom is infringed upon so they struggle to set rules in place for others.

The work for the Enneagram Type 7 is to slow down. To be still and be bored, to work on being present. It can be hard for this future-focused Enneagram type to not look ahead to the future, but their work is in doing less, not doing more. 7s can bring high energy where it is not necessarily needed, tapping into empathy and patience can help deepen relationships and bring meaning to their often fast paced, somewhat chaotic life. A 7 can learn structure and organization from the Type 1 Perfectionist and can lean into the qualities of a type 5 Specialist (depth, curiosity) to balance their energy.

Type 7 at Work…

Enneagram 7s are big picture thinkers who believe anything is possible. They have been known to hop from one career to the next yet always land on their feet. They don’t think about outcome, they think about ideas. Although there isn’t one “right” career path for a 7, it is imperative that an Enneagram 7 have flexibility and freedom in their work. Whether it is through creative expression, weekly brainstorm sessions, a hybrid schedule or starting a business, a 7 will excel when they are in choice yet have parameters and a solid plan for accountability.
