You as CEO. What does your board of directors have to say?

In coaching we use a lot of metaphors. I mean A LOT. As a coach it brings me joy to help people see things from a different point of view. One of my favorite ways to open up new possibilities for clients and get internal feedback is by using a metaphorical board of directors. Extracting yourself from the “problem” can help you see things in a new light! It is a great way to celebrate your accomplishments and find opportunities where you might need an extra boost or some rewiring.

STEP 1. Recognizing yourself as CEO. This is you now. Chief Executive Officer of your life. You are running the show. You have people reporting to you daily. Stuff is happening, you are putting out fires, you are reaping the rewards and taking the falls. What happens when you check in with your metaphorical board of directors?

Step 2. The Check In. Your Board of Directors. Grab a pen. Answer the questions.

COO. Chief Operating Officer.

All about the day to day. The ins and outs. Is your life running smoothly? What are you tolerating? What is awesome? Where do you need some breathing room and where can you reach out for help?

CTO. Chief Technology Officer.

Is technology your friend or enemy? Is it enhancing your creative experience? Like photography, journaling, and relationship building? Or saving you time with automatic ordering, reminders, and audio books? Are your tech habits harmful or helpful? What areas are causing you stress?

CFO. Chief Financial Officer.

How are your finances? Does your spending align with your values? Are you being paid what you deserve? Admire someone who has it together financially? Reach out and ask them for their tips and tricks! We all can’t be Warren Buffet.

CWO. Chief Wellness Officer.

My fave! What does your Chief Wellness Officer have to say about your state of being? Optimistic, joyful, overwhelmed? Do you have support, both medically and mentally? Are you exercising, meditating, practicing philanthropy? What is getting in the way of your true happiness?

Step 3. Notice what came up. What are 2 actionable items you could do today to enhance the quality of your “business”?

I did this exercise this morning and it was so clarifying! I realized a few hurdles that I need to jump over in order to live a more well rounded and engaged life.

My CEO would be proud.
